Dr. Jeffery Machat
LASIK is an incredible procedure. I first started performing laser vision correction more than 30 years ago. I graduated medical school in Toronto Canada at age 25 and was board certified in Ophthalmology in Canada at age 29, and in the USA at age 30. On February 4th, 1991, I completely specialized my practice to laser vision correction.
I know that every patient experiences a mixture of nervous excitement and fear before their LASIK procedure.
I began performing laser eye surgery 5 years before it was FDA approved in the United States.
I traveled to Bogota Colombia to learn LASIK, as it did not exist in North America at the time.
Since then I have dedicated my life to helping people experience the overnight miracle of LASIK.
I have 6 children and treat every patient the way in which I would want my wife and children treated. I want you to have a great experience, feel supported and comforted throughout your LASIK journey, and of course—see amazingly well! I talk to patients in the same manner I would want a physician to speak with me: with warmth and compassion, but with directness so you truly have a full understanding.
I say all this because I want you to know that you will be in exceptionally good hands. Experience is more than simply performing a lot of procedures; experience is having advanced expertise in all aspects of one’s chosen field. Being able to not just perform the procedure but recognize potential risks in advance and manage complications when and if they occur.
I have experienced the miracle of laser eye surgery myself, and so I know firsthand the emotions before, during and after laser eye surgery. I use a lot of anesthetic and talk continuously through each step of the ten minute surgery. People are always amazed at how much easier and faster LASIK was than they expected. Today with the advancements of LASIK technology, the procedure is exceptionally safe and accurate in my hands.
I love what I do, even after more than three decades, I love caring for my patients and being a part of this emotional and incredible life changing journey.

I had a high prescription and have wanted lasik for years but was very hesitant about it. The day before my procedure I was terribly anxious and Dr Machat cared to call me to go over my concerns. Dr. Machat and all members of his team were wonderful to work with. The first 24hrs after surgery have been great! I took the medicine recommended to sleep the full day after surgery and I woke up with better than 20/20 vision!! The doctor says over the next month my vision will continue to improve! I could not have had a better experience with Dr. Machat and his staff at LVI. I was made to feel comfortable every step of the way, and was assured through the entire procedure everything was normal and going well. TAKE THE NAP. I had no itching, burning, or discomfort at all because I slept through it afterward as instructed. The next morning, I had 20/20 vision and was told it only gets better from here. Dr. Machat is the man!! I’m a pretty anxious person in general, but man did he make the procedure super easy. He was very calming, talked me through the whole thing, and numbed up my eyes a lot so I didn’t feel anything. I could see the whole process and immediately afterwards I could see stuff already clearer than I had before. A day later my vision is 20/20 at worst, and has the possibility to improve. Anyone who’s on the fence about this, DO IT! It’s so worth it. The staff is wonderful and the procedure is easy. I wish I did this years ago!
